Memorial Day - Fly Your flag at Half Staff Till Noon

In May 1868, General John A. Logan, the commander-in-chief of the Union veterans’ group known as the Grand Army of the Republic, decreed that May 30 should become a nationwide day of commemoration for the soldiers killed in the ended Civil War.

In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday.  When the day was first observed as Decoration Day, it was only used to recognize those killed in the Civil War, not in any other American conflict. After World War I it expanded the meaning of the holiday, recognizing members of the military killed in any war.

If you have a flag pole in your front yard, remember to fly it Half-staff because we want to honor fallen soldiers, and should remain at half-staff until noon.
